Two 16-year-olds and a 15-year-old are charged with beating and sexually assaulting a Highland Park High School student.
Three teenagers pleaded not guilty last week to beating, raping and robbing an 18-year-old Highland Park High School student last New Year's Eve in Chicago, the Highland Park News reports. Fifteen-year-old Terrance Ford, 16-year-old Aanwar Barbour and 16-year-old Charles Cuning have been charged as adults with aggravated criminal sexual assault, kidnapping and robbery. They're each ordered held on $750,000 bond, according to the Highland Park News. Update March 22: A 16 year old has been charged in the attack on a Highland Park High School senior on New Year's Eve in Chicago, according to Highland Park News. Charles Chuning is the third person arrested after an 18-year-old Highland Park woman was attacked and sexually assaulted on New Year's Eve near the Congress Theater in Logan Square. According to Highland Park News, Chuning did not sexually assault or rob the victim as his co-defendants are accused of having done. Prosecutors say he helped carry the victim to the location where she was sexually assaulted. Chuning is being held on $750,000 bail, the Highland Park News reports. Read more here. A crowd that included students and mothers gathered by Logan Square's Congress Theater on Monday night to show support for the Highland Park High School student who was raped and beaten near the venue on New Year's Eve, both the Highland Park News and the Chicago Tribune report. One day after he was removed as president of Penn State, Graham Spanier has lost another distinction: his place as a distinguished graduate of Highland Park High School. "Our distinguished alumni need to be role models," said District 113 Superintendent George Fornero in a statement. "In an attempt to protect our students, the plaque has been removed." Spanier, 63, and Penn State football coach Joe Paterno were both removed from their university positions Wednesday in an attempt by the university to control the damage done by the arrest of former assistant coach Jerry Sandusky Saturday. Man allegedly assaulted Evanston woman outside of Denny's last Thursday.
A 25-year-old Waukegan man was arrested last Thursday and charged with sexually assaulting an Evanston woman in the parking lot of Denny's in Highland Park. The 39-year-old woman told police she was assaulted in her vehicle while she was parked in front of the restaurant at about 2:30 a.m. on June 16, according to a news release issued by the Highland Park Police Department. After the attack, the woman drove herself to Evanston Hospital, where she was treated for injuries she sustained during the assault. The report states that investigators identified the alleged offender and obtained a warrant for his arrest.
