Company boasts nine sandwiches under $5 but a close look shows there are even more.
Tom & Eddie’s customers spoke and restaurateurs Tom Dentice and Ed Rensi listened. The company has changed its menu in Deerfield, Vernon Hills and its other locatiion now offering nine sandwiches under $5 and new specialty items for the heartier eater. Earlier: Atypical Pair Start Tom & Eddie’s “Our customers were asking for lower prices and we took suggestions from our customers,” Chief Marketing Officer Cherle Link said. “Tom (Dentice) and Ed (Rensi) looked at the economy and wanted to do something.” None of the old items went away though some must be ordered through the build your own feature on the menu, according to Link. Former McDonald’s executives develop casual, creative concept in Deerfield.
Food industry veterans Tom Dentice and Ed Rensi are anything but typical for a pair who climbed the corporate ladder from the very bottom of the McDonald’s organization to the top rungs of management. After they left McDonald’s in 1999 after nearly 70 years at the company between them, Dentice and Rensi decided to do something more with hamburgers than the company where they started. The result is Tom & Eddie’s Restaurant in Deerfield and four other locations. Dentice, 72, and Rensi, 67, are quick to let people know they did not retire from McDonald’s. “We stopped working at McDonald’s,” Rensi said. “We did not retire. Tom & Eddie's owner goes behind the wheel.
The last we heard from Tom & Eddie's is that the caddy was heading towards Crate and Barrel Wednesday afternoon. No word yet on whether anyone spotted owner Eddie behind the wheel and won the grand prize of free hamburgers for a year. -Previous story on June 8- This is your chance to win free hamburgers for the entire year. Marco Sangria, sorry if I'm not kissing the managers ass over at the Deerfield location. I like Tom and Eddies, I was stating that for being downtown Deerfield, it is easily passed up. A lot of people don't even know It's there. If I worked for Whitecastle, I would re-invent my business plan. If I were a student at Deerfield High School, I'd go to Tony's Subs anyway.
