Intensity Grows Over $89 Million Referendum

Patch reviews all coverage of the plan to renovate Highland Park and Deerfield High Schools.

Ever since the Township High School District 113 Board of Education voted Jan. 14 to place an $89 million referendum on the April 9 ballot to help fund a $114 million renovation of Highland and Deerfield High Schools, there has been no shortage of opinion. Before the Board made its decision, citizens were engaged with numerous meetings and six different committees involving members of the community at large as well as teachers and administration since shortly after a $133 million referendum failed two years ago. The debate mounted the last week including the results of a Patch survey indicating strong support for the referendum. District 113 Renovation Plan Gets Closer

Community is shown potential work at both Deerfield and Highland Park High Schools while scope of project and funding remain unclear.

Final decisions are still a couple of months away, but local residents are beginning to get an idea as to how much a renovation of Deerfield and Highland Park High Schools will cost and by which method. Architects and construction managers laid out in detail the options for giving a facelift to each school and for the first time assigned some costs to the project at meetings Tuesday and Wednesday at Highland Park High School.
