Readers React to the Arrival of Rose's Gluten-Free Bakery

Here's what readers are saying about the gluten-free bakery Marcus Lemonis is opening in Highland Park in February.

Does Highland Park need another bakery? That's what Patch readers discussed last week after it was announced that Lake Forest resident Marcus Lemonis would be opening a Rose's Bakery and Cafe in downtown Highland Park. It will be the second location of the Evanston eatery Lemonis saved from closing last December. "Thank you Marcus!" writes EM. "Words cannot even express how grateful I am to you! I always tell Rose how much I love her Evanston location, now it will be more convenient!" Some readers who keep a gluten-free diet were especially pleased with the news of the opening. "This will be a godsend for those of us in the gluten sensitive/celiac community, and shame on those people who don't understand the severity of those conditions …

Millionaire Sues Highland Park Restaurant He Planned to Buy

Marcus Lemonis agreed to buy In the Raw, the downtown Highland Park vegan restaurant, last December. After he says he spent over $100,000 paying its past-due bills, the owners told him he didn't own anything. Now, he's suing them.

Updated 2/4/2013: For the past six years, Marcus Lemonis' relationship with small businesses has been fairly simple. He spots one he likes and, just when it seems to be on the verge of shuttering, he buys it. Now, he finds himself in a less typical, more frustrating situation with one Highland Park business: a lawsuit. Lemonis, the Lake Forest millionaire who has breathed new life into about 50 businesses in the past six years, is suing In the Raw, a vegan restaurant in downtown Highland Park. He says that after he invested more than $100,000 in the restaurant, its owners reneged on their deal. Lemonis shared with Patch legal documents as well as email correspondence between himself and the restaurant's owners and their lawyer about the …

I really like the juices and continue to support in the raw but I think they are over priced. I have never eaten dinner there since i do not like the cold raw dinners. I think the menu needs to include a little more than just raw food similar to Karyns Cooked. They have an Incredible vegan menu for lunch and dinner   more ›

Lake Forest Millionaire to Open Highland Park Bakery

Marcus Lemonis, who will be featured in a CNBC reality show, is opening a gluten-free bakery in Highland Park in February.

Marcus Lemonis, the Lake Forest resident who bought Rose’s Wheat-Free Bakery & Cafe in Evanston last December, announced Wednesday that he would open a second location for the bakery in Highland Park. Rose’s Bakery and Café will offer fresh baked breads, cookies, cakes, cupcakes and muffins, as well as pizza, soups and sandwiches. The Highland Park location will be open seven days a week with extended hours in the summer, according to a news release issued Wednesday. "Having gone gluten free over a year ago and becoming a patron of Rose's, I know the love and devotion that customers have for Rose's," Lemonis said. Last year, Lemonis stepped up at the last minute and invested $200,000 into Rose O’Carroll’s struggling enterprise so the doors…

Lake Forest Millionaire Gets His Own TV Show

Marcus Lemonis made his fortune in the RV industry, and since then has made a name for himself breathing new life into struggling businesses. He recently filmed one of episodes of a television series that will air on CNBC.

When Marcus Lemonis stopped by Rose’s Wheat-Free Bakery & Cafe in Evanston a year and a half ago, the Lake Forest resident was happy to be one of its customers.  When the restaurant's business started lagging in December and it looked like it would have to close, Lemonis was happy to buy it. "I liked the product," Lemonis explained about his decision to spend over $200,000 buying Rose's. Lemonis isn't your typical North Shore resident, and he's certainly not your typical millionaire. The 39-year-old was born in Lebanon during wartime and was adopted from a Beirut orphanage by an American family that moved him to Miami, Fla. He attended Marquette University in Milwaukee. He says he was an average student at school, but he's certainly …

Visited In the Raw today for lunch with coworkers and was pleased to see that the restaurant was not only almost full to capacity, but that we had to wait 20 minutes. At any other restaurant we would have left and gone down the street, but the staff and owner were so accommodating - they passed out juice and pastry samples while we waited - best I have ever had: this restaurant certainly can pay …   more ›
