  • Of the listing McDonald's

Back when I was in college, I used to eat a lot of fast food - of course, I was schlepping to/from classes all day and walked everywhere, so I burned off those calories pretty quickly no matter what I ate. Also, I think there's some previously unknown glad in the human body that allows one to digest fast food well when we're in our 20's and beyond. However, overuse of the glad caused it to dry up by the time I was 30, and now I and most everyone I know can't stomach that stuff at all.

Some people have said the ingredients changed, but I'm gonna stick with the digestive gland theory :-)

  • Of the listing Wendy's

    **

With Wendy's or indeed, any fast food chain, you know what you're in for. But I'd refute the claim of "very clean" - last time I happened to stop in this Wendy's, there were flies on the walls, buzzing around the counter, and the counter staff was less than attentive. Not wanting to eat where flies were congregating, I chose to leave w/o ordering anything...

It's alright, but nothing that I crave (like Real Urban BBQ).

  • Of the listing Viccino's Pizza Company

    ****

Good service, great food, fair pricing. What more could you ask for? Oh yeah, friendly staff too! When you want a change from too much Lou's or IlForno's - Viccino's is a great change of pace that won't disappoint...

My wife and I used to frequent this restaurant - the food was decent, the service was OK. Unfortunately the service and food stopped being consistent, so we didn't return and don't plan to ever go back.

  • Of the listing Il Forno Pizzeria

    *****

The single slices of pizza for lunch are huge... Service is good, staff is friendly, prices are good too... If you're in the mood for a good thin crust pizza - this is the place to head to...

  • Of the listing Real Urban Barbecue

    *****

I've had a lot of BBQ in my life - some good, some bad, but I've never had anything as good as the Pulled Chicken Sandwich that I had at RUB this afternoon. Excellent portion size, very very tasty sides, and the service is excellent. Everyone at the restaurant is extremely friendly, and for my first visit - I was completely satisfied. I'll definitely be back - with many hungry friends and family...

This place is going to give the other BBQ joints in the area a real run for their money...

  • Of the listing Lake City Cleaners

    *****

When you have a tough stain that no one else can get out - you go to Lake City. They're able to deal with the tough stuff, and everything in-between. They take great care of their customers and their clothes. Worth every penny...

  • Of the listing Craftwood Lumber and Hardware

    ****

These guys might not be the least expensive hardware store in the area, but when you take into account that you don't have to fight traffic to get to Home Depot or Lowe's or deal with the higher sales tax rates in Cook County - it all works out in the end.

They also carry some items that Depot or Lowe's don't have.

Add in the fact that the staff there are easy to find, and ALWAYS helpful, and there's a definite advantage over the "big box" stores.

Oh, and the popcorn... yeah free popcorn... yum...

  • Of the listing Target

    ***

This Target location is clean, but most that I've visited around the Country are. The only reason why I don't frequent Target more is because they don't appear to value the time of the Customer. Specifically, they have about 20 checkout counters at the front end. Between 1 and 5 have been open at any of the times I've been there - which means that I have to wait in line to checkout because of their failure to open counters.

Several times, the lines have been too long so I've left my cart, walked out and made my purchases elsewhere.

Their policy on wanting to scan a driver's license or state ID in order to make a purchase of cough medicine w/o ephedrine in it simply invades my privacy and exposes me to identity theft. That they've chosen to have a policy means nothing to me - it's not a law, it's a company policy and my policy is that I spend my dollars at businesses that don't invade my privacy or create risk for me.

Go to Sunset Foods - where if someone's waiting in line, they open another counter - until all of them are open (and then what could one complain about).

The prices at Target aren't much of a savings when compared to other businesses - and when I factor in the value of my time, I find it less expensive to shop elsewhere.
