Nonprofit Nova-HP Seeks City Funds to Stay Afloat

Nova-HP wants to become self-supported, but needs a financial boost from the city to help make that happen.

Nova-HP, a nonprofit after school program providing sports, music and arts opportunities to high school students, is asking the City of Highland Park and the Park District of Highland Park to each donate $25,000 a year over the next two years so it can remain operational, reported the Chicago Tribune.

The organization, started two years ago by the Small family, would like to become self-supported through grants, donations and programming fees, but needs the city's help in getting there, according to the Tribune story.

Some park commissioners have already expressed resistance to the group's funding request. Read the full story at www.chicagotribune.com.

Nova's funding request is on Highland Park's committee-of-the-whole agenda for 6 p.m. Monday, July 22.
