Park District Delays Rosewood Beach Opening

Safety concerns prompt Park District of Highland Park to keep beach closed at least through July.

Public access to Rosewood Beach has been delayed at least through July as an extensive renovation project continues, according to a news release from the Park District of Highland Park.

Highland Park residents will be able to swim at the north end of the Park Avenue boating beach with life guard protection or purchase a season pass at the Glencoe beach at the same price paid by Glencoe citizens, according to the release.

“Safety concerns have prompted the Park District of Highland Park to keep Rosewood Beach closed throughout the beach facility construction and restoration project,” the Park District said in the release.

The work is a joint effort of the Park District and the United States Army Corps of Engineers. The Army will be bringing 45,000 cubic yards of sand to the beach in June and July. “The Park District’s risk management agency has recommended that Rosewood Beach remain closed to the public until the entire project is fully complete,” the Park District said in the release.
