Giants Dominate Mundelein, Remain Undefeated

Highland Park High School football team starts season 2-0 for first time in 20 years.

Tommy Sutker had a hand in 24 of Highland Park High School’s 31 points as the Giants defeated Mundelein, 31-12, Friday at Wolters Field to begin the season with two victories for the first time in many years.

The 2-0 start may be the best beginning for a Highland Park team in at least 20 years, according to Head Coach Hal Chiodo and Freshman Coach Jim Berardi. Though Sutker ran for two touchdowns and threw for a pair, Chiodo saw a team victory with room to grow.

“Overall (this was a) great team effort as everyone contributed,” Chiodo said. “We need to eliminate some of the mistakes especially in the first half and play a little smarter.”

Joining Sutker putting points on the board for the Giants were Kelshon Shields, Cole Greenberg and Aaron Weinstein. Jack Maguire had two long catches to put Highland Park in a position to score two of its touchdowns.

A major part of the victory was a defensive effort led by Jason Goldsmith and Teddy Sutker, according to Berardi. The defenders kept Mustang standout Emmanuel Jones from punishing them after he gained more than 300 yards last week against Wheeling.
