Grand Jury Indicts Man for Highland Park Theft
Man responsible for Sherwood Forest theft from car nabbed with goods in Vernon Hills.
Mohammed Ghafouri was indicted by the Lake County Grand Jury Wednesday in connection with a string of thefts from cars and automobile burglaries Oct. 20 and 21 in the Sherwood Forest neighborhood.
Ghafouri was stopped by Vernon Hills police for possession of a stolen automobile Oct. 27 and officers found jewelry taken from one of the cars in Highland Park in Ghafouri’s vehicle, according to Deputy Highland Park Police Chief George Pfutzenreuter.
Though there were eight incidents during the Highland Park crime spree, Ghafouri could only be tied to one, according to Pfutzenreuter.

Ghafouri was indicted for theft between $500 and $10,000 in the Highland Park case, a Class 3 Felony, and possession of a stolen vehicle, a Class 2 Felony. If convicted on both counts, he could be sentenced to between five and 12 years in jail. He will be arraigned in Lake County Criminal Court Dec. 5 in Waukegan at which time he will have the opportunity to plead either not guilty or guilty.
